I moved. There's only one internet provider that isn't over cellular in this area. That provider blocks port 80. After having self-hosted since 2007 on my own equipment for the literal cost of Internet and my own server, I'm not going to start paying for a web site that basically nobody but my own mom ever visited.
But they don't block 443, so why not just have a secure site? Well, that costs a lot of money annually for a certificate.
Just use the free cert, idiot! The ACME protocol for automated renewal requires that port 80 be available for .well-known/ lookups.
No, but don't you know about the DNS option!?!?!? Haha, I don't pay for fancy DNS where I can automate that. That means getting the challenge string, logging into my registrar, using thier DNS editor to add the right TXT field, with a fairly low TTL, hoping the server hasn't given up by the time I've done all that. Doing that every 30 to 40 days, manually, is just not going to help me.
